3 Must-Watch TV Shows You’ll Wish You Could Experience for the First Time Again

Many of us are guilty of this. Bingeing the same show over and over again rather than coming to a definite conclusion to settle for something new to watch. It’s fine; there’s no judgment here.

Perhaps, many of us would like to wipe our memory, if possible and dramatically so, Men-in-Black-style, just to experience the blissful binge all over again. Imagine having to watch your now favourite characters for the first time, all the twists and turns, and not being left on a cliffhanger only to wait a whole year, sometimes more, for the next season to come out.

Good news is, you are not alone. We have all been there. Going back to that one show. The very one that made you cancel some plans, ignore text messages, put that phone on silent, snuggle in bed and live in the delusion of ‘Just one episode’ until the sun came up. Sadly or whatever, no matter the many times you rewatch these shows, it never hits quite like the first time you did.

Whereas we cannot simply press ‘reset’ on our brains, there is one thing we can do—sit back, tune in and rewatch these 10 shows as though we are watching them for the first time.

Let’s see if you would have the same reactions to plot twists and relationship endgames.

Game of Thrones:

When I dedided to binge GOT, it was on its 5th season and I remember vividly what the person introducing the show said to me— ‘if you are able to sit through the first three episodes, you will love every bit of it…’ and that was no joke at all. I watched the pilot for three consecutive times before I could garner appreciation. I cannot remember when or how it happened but when I was essentially immersed into it, it was chef kiss all the way to the very end.

For me GOT was not merely about the gore, the obscene s3x scenes or the medieval effect it had. It was more about the language, the diction and the unpredicatability of the entire show. You dare not fall in love with a character because he or she’s head could be on the spike in the next episode or even scene.

While everyone loved Jon Snow and the Mother of Dragons, my favourite characters throughout the show remains Tyrion, the imp (I Have A Tender Spot In My Heart For Cripples, Bastards, And Broken Things) and Little Finger and of course, Sansa and Arya Starks (a girl has no name…)

Feel free to come for my head and see if I care…

Suits:

I guess I have a penchant for joining the party late because I joined this courtroom drama when it was on its 5th season albeit, there were no struggles. Right of the bat, suits and I became buddies. I have watched the show so many times I know the characters, their lines, their facial expressions and even went ahead to learn the opening song is “Greenback Boogie” by Ima Robot.

Suits (USA) is a slick, fast-paced legal drama with a twist—and a ton of charm. The show revolves around Harvey Specter, one of New York’s top corporate lawyers, who risks it all to hire Mike Ross, a brilliant college dropout with an eidetic memory, to be his associate. The catch? Not only is Mike a college dropout, but he never even went to law school, much less Harvard Law.

What proceeds is a gripping and witty series comprising intelligent courtroom bouts, office politics and lots of closet skeletons that could potentially ruin everything for Mike and Harvey. Suits went a tad downhill for me when Rachel Zane left the show to marry his real-life Prince Charming. I feel showrunners kept dragging it right until the ninth season when they could have just left everything at season 6.

The Blacklist

The Blacklist is part thriller, part mystery and part crime cocktail. This is the kind of show that will make you say, “just one more episode,” and truth be told, Raymond Reddington is that morally ambiguous grandfather I would give my last farthing to have.

If you are someone who loves witty and clever dialogue, big reveals with a side of sitting right on the edge of your seat, then the blacklist is going to be your next obsession.

And just like Suits, The Blacklist should have just ended when Elizabeth died but I guess we don’t always get what we want in life is no worn-out cliche after all.
